I recently appeared on Studio 5 to talk about one of the biggest health myths I hear: the fear of natural sugar in fruit. After spending a summer researching gut health and nutrition, I shared why whole fruits—even the sweet ones—are packed with powerful benefits for digestion, brain health, and energy.

From bananas for gut support, to avocados for brain function, and citrus fruits for detox, I break down my top 8 favorite fruits and how to enjoy them without guilt. Don’t fear what’s grown from the earth—let’s fuel our bodies with real, colorful foods and support our health from the inside out.

Over the years I have been surprised to hear how many of my clients eat very little fruit because of the “sugar”. Especially from those that count macros. Initially, I can’t say I blame them. Macro counting helps people reach their goals so fast! I am grateful for that science…. BUT, When they find out that an apple has 25 carbs, then they start to second guess eating it.

Even the ever popular banana, about 20g? “no thanks”- they tell themselves. This is where I start to question how avoiding those will make you reach your goals?!

Fruit is grown with the soil and minerals and miracle of life from earth, it’s loaded with vitamins, polyphenols, antioxidants and nutrients that literally prevent disease….
So why should we FEAR FRUIT because of the sugar and carbs? WE SHOULDN’T!

In fact, for an entire summer I was so baffled that spent all my free time researching this topic (even some added prayers for guidance). What I discovered that FRUIT was even MORE powerful than I thought and we actually all need MORE of it! After my research and the practice of incorporating fruit in the morning, I have seen clients for the last 5 years reach goals and find energy they have been missing… all from MORE FRUIT in the morning.

Now I don’t think we need to eat it all day into the evening (except berries & melons) but when we load up our mornings full of PROTEIN & FRUIT you’d be surprised at how our energy and food cravings starts to regulate. Try it for yourself.

Start with eating an apple every single day for breakfast with your protein and watch how good you start to feel. Then add some diversity, try pears, and kiwis, and pineapple…you will literally add vitality and LIGHT to your life and health!
